Lyme Disease

J unfortunately recieved a bite from a Lyme Disease carrying tick. About 5 weeks ago now she developed symptoms similar to a flu, sore joints, back ache, tummy upset, headache and decreased apetite. The lack of apetite told me she really was unwell, then coupled with a fever (102 - sorry don't have a celcius thermometer) meant a trip to the Doctor.

Lyme can only be detected by blood test, even then it can be a little tricky. J's tests proved positive to Lyme and she was given a 3 week dose of antibiotics - horse tablets which we had to break in half for her. We also dosed her with probiotic drinks every morning and evening to help her tummy cope with all the anitbiotics.

I had heard nasty things about Lyme Disease, so asked around and both D and I read a bit and everything pointed to a desparate need to eradicate it as quickly as possible, to avoid taking a homeopathic path and kick it in the but with antibiotics. So we did and thankfully she seems to have fully recoverd. Time will tell though and we have to keep a close eye out for a relapse.

Lyme can cause chronic health issues including rheumatoid arthritis and heart disease, so we really were quite concerned about getting rid of it. I have since heard that Lyme is a human invention, from a biological facility in Lyme Connecticut, where the disease traveled to the local deer population and is now conveniently transmitted to other animals via the bite of the deer tick. Deer ticks are tiny, about the size of a pin head, but lethal.

At the end of the bottle of antibiotics, a very happy girl.
