8th Birthday Party

Our biggest little man had his 8th birthday back on the 11th May, on the 10th we celebrated with an ARMY party. W had been talking about this for some months and had not wavered on his theme choice. He helped to decorate the table with his soldiers and tanks and other military vehicles and I made a thematic cake - won't spoil the suprise, you will have to scroll down!! W loved the cake and our Army friend who had been Armour Corps was able to recognise the generic vehicle type, so I guess I did not do too badly. W actually gave me a hand drawn design and I adapted it so that I could use my square cake pan. I made it grey, which makes it a German one from WW2 - well that was my excuse any way!! Aparently ours were green (I have not mastered Olive Drab icing yet, and could not face doing camouflage icing).

The party games consited of water bombing missions, water pistol strategy and lots and lots of running. Of course there was the required camouflage paint on faces and much laughter.

When he cut the cake, he kept saying, "I can't touch the bottom". We told him he he touched the bottom he would have to kiss all the girls - the girls were not too impressed with this idea either.

We decided to let W open one present for us after his party, we had friends over for dinner and he felt a little sad that everyone had already moved on from his birthday party, so we let him choose one present. He chose the biggest one and lucky for him, big was actually pretty good.

Opening Presents on the actual birthday, how hard was it to wait until this day, THEN have to wait until Mum got out of bed!!! The wait time and activity was recorded in a number of photos and videos that W took of all sorts of things, with a beautiful running commentary too. I did not know of any of this, was suprised at how quickly my memory card became full and discovered the reason when I came to download my photos to do this blog. None of them are here, some of the video is quite long.
