Rangers Apprectices

Last year W and M asked if they could take Archery lessons, they asked for a 'Real bow and arrows' for christmas and soon after this we started listening to a very cool Audio book called Rangers Apprentice where the RA happened to be called Will, happens to become an expert Archer and has wonderful adventures. We listened to the first 3 books in the series on CD in the car, then the library did not have any more on CD so I bought the books and started reading them aloud. I ordered 8 and 9 from Australia becsause they have not been published here yet and this week we finished number 9. I think we have to wait until November for number 10 which is going to be very painful for us all!!

Anyway, the boys got their wish and for Christmas they recieved there 'real' bows and arrows. D volunteered to be their teacher but we had to wait until there was a day without snow, realatively comfortable temperatures and of course it had to be a weekend. Finally that day arrived. D gave them (and a friend) their first lesson, a bit of theory, how to string the bow, how to stand, hold it and release. Some instruction on aiming and distance etc. They LOVED it.

The next day they were lucky enough to have another lesson, this time with a target and from 6m they did really well, then from 12m they did pretty well too. A bow, being a weapon meant all three of my boys were in their element and so far Archery is a huge success for all of them, I am thinking that there might be another order for a 'real' bow and arrow next Christmas from the biggest boy!!!
