Picnic at Irvington

Today we decided to take advantage of the lovely weather and head out to a park on the Hudson which we visited for the first (and brief) time during a recent car rally with the New Residents Club. It has a great view of the City, well ordinarily it does but today the City was shrowded in fog and we could just make out some buildings. There is a playground and the children made good use of it, funny how this never would have been on our list of must haves for a picnic spot 10 years ago.

We took our little BBQ and cooked some lunch. The last photo here is of a 911 memorial, it is a perfect spot since you can look down the river and see the city and of course so many New Yorkers commute from these northern suburbs into the city and were a number of the victims and heros of the day.

It also seems that many of the parks on the Hudson are between the river and the railway, so we get regular oohs and ahs at either the huge barges being pushed up and down the river by tug boats or the trains also heading in either direction.

We played, ate and flew the kite - which is always a huge hit with the children and I have to say I am also always impressed when it flies (although these days there are almost fail safe - even for me).
