We had a look inside the fire station at the desk and saw where they recieve 911 calls and where they dispatch and control the work.
We saw the command vehicle where the Captain rides and all of the equipment it holds, it is also the rescue vehicle. Then we say a Fire Truck and now we all know that the difference between a Fire Truck and a Fire Engine is that a Truck has lots of equipment (the one we saw also had a ladder and a hose) but it can not pump water. The Fire engine is the one that can pump water, so to put out a fire they really need both, or at least the engine.
We saw alot of the equipment and G put the ladder up for us, J got to sit in side and sound one of the sirens but then they got a real call and G had to go to work. We watched the Command vehicle and the Fire Engine leave with sirens sounding and lights flashing and then we headed home. We can go back any time, so we may go again in a few months.
We live ohly a few hundred meters from the fire station so we see the engines and trucks and hear them at least daily. It was a lot of fun and the children enjoyed it. J (my friend) and I learned about EDITH's which are Emergency Drills In The Home and we talked about were we would have an evacuation plan at our home. So now we really need to do that with the Children so they all know what to do in an emergency.

We were all pretty impressed with the hight that the ladder got to and how quickly too.

These are the jaws that they use to free people from cars.
