Static Electricity

We had a lot of fun with this experiment. You have all done this or at least experieneced the sticking up of hair with balloons, or indeed in plastic play equipment as children-or climbing around after the children. So why does it happen? Because the rubbing causes the negative charges from our hair to transfer to the balloon, then the negatively charged Balloon clings to our positively charged hair. When both balloons are negatively charged, they push away from each other, that part was extra fun - walking under the balloons as they followed the chn whilst trying to keep away from each other.
